BBC Radio 4 “Going it Alone” series

If you’re considering using donor sperm as a solo woman, we can highly recommend the Radio 4 Woman’s Hour mini series “Going it Alone”. This engaging and compassionate three part series explores the experiences of three different women who have become solo mums by choice using donor sperm.

We hear from Lucy, Jay and Emily, as well as some of the children themselves, as to how their journeys have unfolded and some of the challenges they have overcome along the way.

Solo mums (as opposed to a single mum who is separated from their co-parent) using donor sperm is an increasingly common way to start a family, for a variety of reasons. In the series we also hear from Clare Ettinghausen from the HFEA and Nina Barnsley from the Donor Conception Network, explaining some of the regulatory and support systems in place for women who choose this path.

You can listen now here BBC Radio 4 – Woman’s Hour, Going It Alone, Venezuela, Military children or on the BBC Sounds app. This first instalment starts at 16m 40s.
